One plus one, Then double that again and again
Four years ago, I was four days sober.
I made a decision and took inaction.
I did not drink one day.
Then I didn't drink for one more day.
And I doubled my effort until it was four.
And I did that again.
And again.
Building the First 30 Days
So, how do you get your first 30 days?
Get to 15.
By gutting it out past seven.
While white knuckling and holding on for three.
After doubting yourself at two, convinced any more than one is impossible.
Let Go of the Number
How many days has it been, days that I have not consumed alcohol?
I don't know, I could Google it I suppose.
It doesn't matter how many days, but I'm doubling today's number starting tomorrow.
Today, plus one. I don't need to count anymore.
One, and then another one.
No scorecard is necessary, your opinion is not relevant to my path. But that's how I passed four years.
Every other habit on this planet is the exact same way.
Save a dollar, and then another one. Repeat that and you'll be rich one day. Go run around the block, and do that again tomorrow. It'll be hard for four or five days, and then it'll be just one more day. Call a friend you haven't spoken to in a long time. And then call someone else the next day. The next thing you know, you begin to feel comfortable calling people out of the blue to tell them that they are important.
You won't get 10 years of savings in the bank unless you begin on day one. You're not gonna claim over four years of being sober unless you stop drinking for a day.
What do you need to start or stop? Name it, proclaim it, tell someone, set your intention. One day, this day. Then the next day. That equals two. One more...
