What your body knows before your mind admits it
Regulation, I think that's what they're trying to call it now. It's a woo-woo buzz word, but at the end of the day it's about putting frequencies together. Co-regulation is when you're with a partner and you vibe together. When it's not right or mismatched, you know it. When one person's energy shifts, the other notices quickly. When we are unregulated, everything becomes louder.
The Body Keeps the Score
I read something recently. It said your mind knows how to lie to you, but your body doesn’t. The body keeps the score. It does not know how to lie to you. When it is talking to you, that is the truth, and our mind is able to reduce it into something insignificant.
Something Was Off
I was feeling very unregulated yesterday, and my body was speaking. I could only find the word “melancholy,” but I knew that left some explanation open. I couldn't really put a finger on it, but I was clearly not operating at my emotional peak. Sleep has been hit or miss, and I’m tired at weird times. My time on social media has spiked, and I bit a small piece of my fingernail off. I haven’t done that in a year. Something is off.
What I Wasn't Doing
It wasn't until this morning. I woke up very early and it was completely obvious to me. It had been three or four days since I had a really strong workout in my garage, a couple days since I got on my knees to pray, probably a few more days since I had opened up my journal and unburdened my mind onto the pages. I had been in my house without any type of music to calm me, a deafening silence so to speak. There have been changes about how I feel as being significant at my Rotary and work, and some unnerving news from my parents. All of this together just created a storm that my brain didn't recognize, but my body sure as hell did.
Time to Snap Out of It
There are times when everyone gets like this. Why do we not recognize what our body is telling us? How is it that we're doing great with habits; we let those slide and everything changes? I realized this was happening. I just thought, "What was working? What is not happening now?" As I'm writing this, it feels redundant. I know I've had this conversation with myself before. As a result of restless sleep, at 4:47 this morning I said, "Chris, snap out of it!”
I loaded up the protein shake, fired up the tunes in the garage, and crushed a workout. By 5:46 AM, I was re-energized. The dog even got a nice long walk prior to first light. Regulated, calibrated, whatever words you need to use, but you have to understand that our frequencies get mismatched, even within our own systems. Truly I believe this is something we have agency over; few things are so far out of our control that we can’t be the facilitator to our own change.
Energy Doesn't Stay Contained
When our internal energy gets mismatched, it bleeds over into relationships. Think about matching energy.
The Reset
With a really good “why” and a pronouncement that we are going to reset, it becomes a little easier to take those heavy lifting steps first. Motivation follows action, every… single… time.
Workout, done! Writing, done! Exercise, done! And before I walk out my door, I’ll bend my knee to pray.
My why is solid.
Now I feel Regulated…
